COVID-19 Response

Update 6/14/2020

Hello Desert Hope family,
First, I want to thank everyone on behalf of the Leadership Council for your thoughts, prayers and relaying your concerns as we try to figure a path thru the current and ever-changing crises happening in our world. We cherish your desire to return to worship and fellowship, as well as concerns about how to protect our at-risk members, staff, and volunteers. For all those reasons and more, we have voted to delay the ‘dipping our toes’ into in-person worship at the Desert Hope facility until Saturday, June 27 for a 5:00 pm service.
At this first service, things will be different from the past. This service will not be televised and may have limited audio-visual capability. These are some of the additional precautions taking place:

  • On arrival, all persons would undergo a touchless temperature scan, application of hand sanitizer
  • Wearing a mask that covers your nose and mouth throughout the service. Those unable to do this are asked to continue to worship online.
  • Ushers will be available to assist in finding seats with respect to our social distancing measure, two empty seats between family/single groups. We ask that everyone not in your family group, to adhere to a 6-foot social distance and no physical contact.
  • Outside, sanctuary and main bathroom doors will remain open for entry and exit to avoid touching of common doors and handles.
  • We ask that all persons adhere to the handwashing 20 second, hand soap and water method. Parents/guardians please monitor children in those situations.
  • After the Saturday service, the facility will be cleaned by volunteers immediately after conclusion of the service. We ask that those in attendance exit promptly to facilitate and expedite this process for the next morning’s activities.

Sunday service will remain ONLINE and Live stream only for the foreseeable future. This would enable safety of staff and allow online communion to continue. Should the Saturday attendance overflow a comfortable capacity, we will revisit our options.
Volunteer positions will be directed by the current ministry leaders and our ever-faithful office staff to fill the designated needs. We ask that all Desert Hope family prayerfully consider your comfort level of both yourself and your loved ones in making the decisions about returning and stepping into your roles to volunteer.
As always, we seek Divine guidance, the recommendations of health officials and prayerfully ask for grace and patience as we continue to evaluate the dynamic conditions during the pandemic.
We encourage you to make decisions that make sense and are comfortable for you and your families. For the time being, I too will be leading and worshiping from home.
In God’s peace and grace,

Kris Hubbard,
Leadership Council President

4/17/2020 - Update

I hope that you all had a blessed Easter and had some time to enjoy the beautiful weather. We are continuing our online services, church office work and volunteer coordination until we learn it is safe to come back together. As quarantine continues, we wanted to make you aware of some opportunities to help serve and help those in need or struggling financially. Please reach out if we can help your family.
A Pastor’s Discretionary Fund has been established to assist DHLC members in financial need- Funds  may be designated directly, please ask Pastor Jim or Keith Kuehn.
Volunteer opportunities to help our neighbors:

      • Love Thy Neighbor-providing clothing, Bibles and everyday needs
      • J17- shopping and meeting needs
      • Pantano/church alliance- cards and potentially meals for hospital workers (previous email from Lynnea)

Please reach Lynnea directly at 520-344-1757 for specific needs or details about this or other opportunities.

We are blessed by generous gifts and blessings from God and each other, and we hope you prayerfully consider these and other ways to reach out to our neighbors, friends and community.
If you have other opportunities you would like to offer, we invite you to share those with us so we may bring it to light. May we continue to be the Desert Hope in Tucson and the world.

God’s peace and grace,
Kris Hubbard

Gods peace be with you as we all endure the current health scare of COVID-19 (Corona Virus).  As a nurse and as Congregational President, I am concerned as this epidemic unfolds. The Executive Committee has met and decided to take action to protect our precious and vulnerable church members.
We are continuously monitoring current recommendations from the CDC, President Trump, Governor Ducey and health officials. At this time, it has been determined that we need to take the following actions:

Effective immediately the following will be taking place at Desert Hope Lutheran Church:

      • Suspending of ALL Church Wide gatherings- Worship Services, all Small Group Gathering and Wednesday night Lenten Services until further notice. We will update as recommendations are received.
      • Streaming will continue of Sunday and Wednesday Evening Services and recordings will be available on the Church Website deserthope.org/resources/live-stream
      • Staffing of the Church office will continue; however, we are closing to the public. Staff will continue to be available thru phone or email to serve in any way that we can at this time. Our staff and pastor are all here during these challenging times. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us!

While we are not physically gathering during this time, our continued monetary support is essential to the mission we share at Desert Hope. Currently we have options of online payment thru bill pay, and thru the Desert Hope website. You can also mail contributions directly to Desert Hope.
As we look to support each other during this time, I take heart in the following words of Jesus:
John 16:33 (ESV):
33  I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

Remember this only applies to our physical distance. Please continue to reach out to each other by phone, email, and text messages. Our relationships and need for our church family at this time is essential!
If you have ideas on other ways we can support you spiritually as a Church family, please contact the Church office.
Peace of the Lord be with you,
Kris Hubbard
