Leadership Council Meeting Saturday, Jul 18 @ 8:30 AM

COVID-19 Response

Desert Hope is coming together again!!

Saturday, May 30, 5pm
Sunday, May 31, 9:30am (which will be live-streamed)

First, we want to encourage anyone who is not comfortable in coming to a gathering yet or who is in the high-risk group, to continue to worship with us online.

We will be holding two services to keep our gathering to a maximum of 50 persons. Services will be held on Saturday at 5pm and Sunday at 9:30am (our usual summer worship time). We have elected to split the services in this way to ensure that the sanctuary and common areas have time to be cleaned in between services.

To increase everyone’s comfort, the Leadership Council has passed the following guidelines to enable us to reopen:

  • We are asking everyone to wear a mask (over 2 years old). Please bring yours from home, we will only have a limited amount available at church. If you still need one, please contact the church office!
  • We will have ushers and greeters at the doors to offer hand sanitizer. They will also open and close doors for you to limit the number of surfaces that anyone needs to touch.
  • The ushers will be directing you to enter the sanctuary through the center doors.
  • To help everyone maintain the recommended social distancing of 6 feet, every other row of chairs will be removed from the sanctuary. Family members may sit in a group, but groups are asked to keep two chairs between themselves and the next group.
  • Communion will not be offered (face masks!) at this time. We are discussing new ways to offer communion to decrease the risk of contaminating the bread or the wine. We will be bringing communion back as soon as we feel it is safe to do so!
  • Hope Notes will continue to be offered online – we will not be handing out paper copies at this time.
  • The Offering Plate will be at the back of the sanctuary rather than being passed from person to person.
  • When service is over, we will exit through the two outer doors and ask that you allow the back to exit first. Please don’t congregate in the doorways!
  • Should you need to use the restroom, we ask that only two people enter at a time. Please use the automatic door opener (push the button with your hip or elbow!) to enter and exit the bathroom. Remember the 20 second rule while washing your hands and use that paper towel to shut off the faucet! If your child needs to use the bathroom, please accompany them.
  • If you are not able to wear a mask, we will have limited seating on the patio with a TV set up to view the service.
  • Children’s Ministry will not be resuming for a while. This means the Nursery will not be open and Sunday school will not meet. Please have your children join you for the service in the sanctuary.

We know that we will all be very excited to see each other again! This is a time, however, of thinking of our neighbor first. You may be comfortable without a mask or in giving hugs – but are they? Please love your neighbor and respect their feelings. Be creative in showing your joy at being together again – use the American sign language sign for ‘I love you’; tap your heart; or virtually hug.

  • Until further notice, ALL non-worship Church Wide gatherings are cancelled.
  • Live streaming will continue for all worship services.
  • The Church Office is closed; the staff is working from home. They are available by phone or email to serve in any way that they can.

UPDATES

4/17/2020 - Update

I hope that you all had a blessed Easter and had some time to enjoy the beautiful weather. We are continuing our online services, church office work and volunteer coordination until we learn it is safe to come back together. As quarantine continues, we wanted to make you aware of some opportunities to help serve and help those in need or struggling financially. Please reach out if we can help your family.
A Pastor’s Discretionary Fund has been established to assist DHLC members in financial need- Funds  may be designated directly, please ask Pastor Jim or Keith Kuehn.
Volunteer opportunities to help our neighbors:

      • Love Thy Neighbor-providing clothing, Bibles and everyday needs
      • J17- shopping and meeting needs
      • Pantano/church alliance- cards and potentially meals for hospital workers (previous email from Lynnea)

Please reach Lynnea directly at 520-344-1757 for specific needs or details about this or other opportunities.

We are blessed by generous gifts and blessings from God and each other, and we hope you prayerfully consider these and other ways to reach out to our neighbors, friends and community.
If you have other opportunities you would like to offer, we invite you to share those with us so we may bring it to light. May we continue to be the Desert Hope in Tucson and the world.

God’s peace and grace,
Kris Hubbard

3/13/2020 - SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: SUSPENSION OF ALL GATHERINGS AT DESERT HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH

Gods peace be with you as we all endure the current health scare of COVID-19 (Corona Virus).  As a nurse and as Congregational President, I am concerned as this epidemic unfolds. The Executive Committee has met and decided to take action to protect our precious and vulnerable church members.
We are continuously monitoring current recommendations from the CDC, President Trump, Governor Ducey and health officials. At this time, it has been determined that we need to take the following actions:

Effective immediately the following will be taking place at Desert Hope Lutheran Church:

      • Suspending of ALL Church Wide gatherings- Worship Services, all Small Group Gathering and Wednesday night Lenten Services until further notice. We will update as recommendations are received.
      • Streaming will continue of Sunday and Wednesday Evening Services and recordings will be available on the Church Website deserthope.org/resources/live-stream
      • Staffing of the Church office will continue; however, we are closing to the public. Staff will continue to be available thru phone or email to serve in any way that we can at this time. Our staff and pastor are all here during these challenging times. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us!

While we are not physically gathering during this time, our continued monetary support is essential to the mission we share at Desert Hope. Currently we have options of online payment thru bill pay, and thru the Desert Hope website. You can also mail contributions directly to Desert Hope.
As we look to support each other during this time, I take heart in the following words of Jesus:
John 16:33 (ESV):
33  I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

Remember this only applies to our physical distance. Please continue to reach out to each other by phone, email, and text messages. Our relationships and need for our church family at this time is essential!
If you have ideas on other ways we can support you spiritually as a Church family, please contact the Church office.

Peace of the Lord be with you,
Kris Hubbard
